As I begin to write this, our first Winter Newsletter, its has just started snowing hard outside!!  The chickens and ducks are cuddled up in the barn - the peacocks clearly haven't seen snow before so they are walking about simply 'enjoying' it!

We see 'our' Barn Owl most days during winter and that is always a magic moment.  We're not sure where they are nesting, but the boys have seen them in one of the barns behind the house.  Guests can expect to see owls hunting in the field beyond the kitchen window each evening and if they are really keen, in the early morning too!

Christmas is behind us and everyone is already looking forward to their next holidays. Maybe a cosy weekend during the winter or thinking further ahead to the spring and summer. Its looking like another busy year for us.

See calendar for latest availability.

2011 was fun and we are grateful to all our guests.  It is always a pleasure to share Dale End with our many visitors from around the world.

Self-catering and Bed & Breakfast accommodation is available throughout the year in The Lodge, the stone built former milking parlour set within the grounds of our Derbyshire farmhouse.

Well behaved DOGS are always welcome.

Within the rural parish of Gratton, we're found on a quiet lane between Elton and Youlgreave. Our guests have unrestricted private access to the entire Lodge.  In the case of B&B the breakfast is served to you in the private dining area of The Lodge. B&B guests may also use the kitchen facilities as they wish to prepare other meals during their stay.  Similarly, Self Catering guests have private use of the entire Lodge.

We look forward to seeing you at Dale End House during 2012.

With Very Best Wishes

Paul & Sarah

Thank you for such a wonderful nights stay.  The Lodge is beautiful, relaxing and set in the perfect location.  A highlight was being greeted by the chickens and ducks in the morning! With many thanks again. Kat & Matt, Nottingham. October 2011

Things to do and see in the Peak District National Park
Pauls brother Martin riding a local trail.

The Peak has some of the best walking, mountain biking and climbing in the country - all straight from the front door. Paul will happily talk to you for hours about his favourite walks, rides and climbs - giving you plenty of ideas!  His dream is to become a professional guide so be careful or else he may want to join you on your days out!

If visiting historic houses is more your thing, then we have two of the best in the country on our door step. Chatsworth House is just 8 miles away and Haddon Hall 6 miles.

Our nearest town is historic Bakewell, home of the Bakewell Pudding along with numerous antiques shops, cafes and craft shops.

Guests can eat out in the many varied pubs and restaurants this part of the Peak District has to offer and some of our favourites are listed here. There is a lovely walk from over the fields to Youlgreave where there is a choice of places to eat. There is also a very quiet lane if the fields are too muddy.  We will happily point you in the right direction!

Dining Room of The Lodge

What makes The Lodge so special?

The Lodge provides uniquely flexible accommodation within the dramatic scenery of the Peak District National Park.

Unlike most accommodation of this kind we have few if any restrictions on your length of stay.  See availability.

Come for 2 nights or 2 weeks, Bed & Breakfast or Self Catering.  Either way you will enjoy sole private usage of the entire Lodge.

One of just six farmhouses in the rural parish of Gratton, Dale End House is found on a quiet lane between Elton and Youlgreave. It enjoys unspoilt countryside, popular with walkers, mountain bikers and climbers alike yet is only six miles from Bakewell and Matlock.

And finally....

Guests who have stayed with us during 2011 will have no doubt seen our children, William, James and Elizabeth [not to mention dad Paul and grandpa Pete!] learning to ride their unicyles.

The children have now mastered the art, indeed the boys, aged 12 and 13, have joined an 'adult' unicycle hockey team - yes they do exist!

They have 11 unicyles in all, in all shapes and sizes - they say 'you can never have enough!'  So don't be surprised if you meet one of them, balancing 5ft up in the air coming towards you along the lane - don't worry, the circus hasn't come to town!

Whether the sun is shining or rain pouring, guests are bound to see the boys outside practising their tricks - free lessons can be arranged - so please don't be shy ;-)

October 2011 This is a lovely place to come and relax.  The Lodge is cosy and has everything you need for your stay.  The view from the kitchen window is amazing, by far the best cottage holiday we have ever had.  Thanks for the warm welcome and eggs! We will be back very soon.  We had a great stay and the walk you suggested was amazing. Thank you.
